Try going to your local library before you buy any cookbook. They have lots of cookbooks, including a wide selection of slow cooker only books if my own local library is any indication. That way you can try the recipes out before you choose one to purchase. Plus, using your local lirbary is very economical ;)

Ha! I hear you. We ate a lot of those growing up! I've got the "Fix-It and Forget-It Cookbook" but it's more like the recipe books the women's church auxiliary put out--not necessarily all that healthy. Anyone have a recommendation?

These are great ideas (wish I'd seen them earlier). We use a crockpot to save us time and energy (and needlessly eating out), but ours doesn't have that cool set & forget feature. The hardest thing about the crockpot is finding a variety of good recipes that don't call for Campbell's soup or similar. If you have any recommendations for the best healthy crockpot cookbooks, I am all ears!

A rice cooker (cheap ones are fine) is also a great gift. It is one of the few cooking appliances allowed in dorms.
